Tenyenhuis and Reichenbach Back in the Winner’s Circle

Goodling and W. Williams earn Senior Titles

Venere & M. Rendelson win Classified Titles

A total purse of $8600 was up for grabs as WASA returned to the Lancaster area, kicking off the start of their 35th tournament season.  General Manager Stan Cramer of Leisure Lanes and Micki Woods of Blue Ball Lanes, hosted the weekend activity.

Patti Tenyenhuis of Saugerties, NY collected her second career tour title when she won the

Lancaster WBA-Myers Auto Body WASA Open on Saturday, April 23.

Eight years since she won her first WASA title, Patti went undefeated going into the final position round of the six game round robin match play finals.  The 2005 WASA Bowler of the Year, Jennifer Swanson of Shelton, CT, handed Patti her only loss, 225-195, however, had to settle for second place, as Patti’s comfortable 119-pin lead was enough to guarantee a second championship.  She claimed the $600 first place prize and is already seeded into the year-end tournament of WASA champions.

Sheila Allen of Peekskill, NY, led the qualifying field, averaging 243 for her nine-game total, which included a 299-771 semi final round.  Other finalists included Linda Goodling, Willow Street, PA, Sandy Venere, Langhorne, PA and Cara Lukosius of Brick, NJ.

Moving over to Blue Ball on Sunday, The Lancaster Women’s Bowling Association once again sponsored the event.  Denise Reichenbach of Milton, PA, winless in her last 58 starts, captured her 10th title, as she cruised through the six game match play finals.  Losing her first match to Stephanie Boyer of Crofton, MD, 256-216, Denise went on to win her next 4 matches, collecting 120 bonus pins and once again faced Boyer in the final position round who now trailed by 73 pins.  As Denise convincingly won the match 256-183, Boyer dropped to third place as Jacqui Reese of Phillipsburg, NJ won her final match against Cara Lukosius of Brick, NJ 202-193, moving to second place.  Denise took home her 10th crown and a check for $600.  Jacqui won $300 as runner-up.

Jennifer Swanson, Shelton, CT, finished fifth and Renee Serfass of Stroudsburg, PA finished sixth.

Linda Goodling of Willow Street, PA, took home a $225 first place check and a record 13th title as she captured WASA’s senior event sponsored by Gary and Cheryl Brooks of Gary’s Pro Shop at Leisure Lanes.  Just 19 pins behind, Christine Macke, Fairfax Station, VA, bowling in her first senior event, finished second, collecting $125.  Other cashers include Donna Kurtz, Lancaster, PA (1292),

Andi Whitlock, Wilmington, DE (1262), Rebecca Webb-Daughtry, Mamaroneck, NY (1243) and

Wendy Williams of Roosevelt, NY, (1233).

Sunday’s senior crown went to Wendy Williams of Roosevelt, NY who took home her second senior title and a check for $200.  Averaging 221 for her six game total, Wendy finished just 11 pins ahead of

runner-up, Kristen Brill of Narvon, PA, who took home $150 for her second place effort, followed by Linda Goodling, Willow Street, PA (1288) and Mary Lorah of Reading, PA (1258).

Held in conjunction with WASA’s main event, senior tournaments are open to women bowlers who have attained at least 50 years of age.

Introduced in 2005, WASA’s classified division is offered to bowlers who average 193 and less.
