Diana Kurrass, Lockport, NY, Jayne Lampugnani, Philadelphia, PA and Sandy Carrigg of Langhorne, PA were all winners of WASA events conducted at Brunswick Zone in Deptford NJ on May 20th.
Successfully defending her 2005 title, Diana led wire-to-wire, averaging 240 for her 15 game qualifying and round robin match play finals.
It was not an easy cruise for Diana, as her lead was cut to 49 pins after a semi final loss, 246-234, to Cara Lukosius of Brick, NJ, setting the stage
for the two to meet again in the final position round. Diana took an early lead and never looked back as she won the match 228-198, taking home
her sixth title and a $600 first place check. Runner-up, Erin Gore of Woodbridge, VA, dropped Cara to third when she won her final match 268-196
over fourth place finisher, Monica Chieco, of Whitestone, NY. Darla Martin of Peekskill, NY and Jayne Lampugnani of Philadelphia, PA, finished
fifth and sixth, respectively. As a previous champion, Diana is already seeded into the year-end tournament of WASA champions.
In WASA’s second senior event of the season, Jayne Lampugnani of Philadelphia, PA won her second career senior title and a $200 first place
check, averaging 229 in the six game sweeper. Defending champion, Olivia Rice of Baltimore, MD, had to settle for second place this year as
she finished 61 pins behind with a 1314 total. Monica Chieco, Whitestone, NY finished third (1308), followed by Andi Whitlock, Middletown, DE (1255)
and Rebecca Webb-Daughtry (1226).
Sandy Carrigg of Langhorne, PA, won her record sixth event and a check for $175 for her 1314 six game total. Andi Whitlock, Middletown, DE
finished second with a 1255. Other cashers included 2005 Classified Bowler-of-the-Year, Rebecca Webb Daughtry of Mamaroneck, NY (1226),
Michelle Rendelson, Lakewood, NJ (1215), Christine Macke, Fairfax, VA (1210) and Donalle Effort (1199).
Hosted by Mr. Ron Tilley, Director of Operations for Brunswick Corporation and Mr. John Antonelli,
General Manager at Brunswick Zone Deptford, all three events paid out a total prize fund of $4500.
WASA returns to New Jersey on Saturday June 10th for the Ebonite Open at Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick.
WASA membership is open to all USBC sanctioned women bowlers who have an established minimum average of 170. Senior events are
open to women who are at least 50 years of age and a classified division is open to women who finished with an average of 193 or less in the
