Terri Bollinger, West Grove, PA, Margery Cook-Bowers, Baldwin, MD and Tina Lemon of Lancaster, PA were all winners of WASA events conducted at the season opener in Lancaster, PA on Saturday, April 14th.
Sponsored by the Lancaster Men’s and Women’s Bowling Association, Myers’ Auto Body and Innovative Bowling Products, Stan Cramer, General Manager of Leisure Lanes, hosted three separate events, which paid out a total prize fund of $4500.
Averaging 239 for her 9-game qualifying total, ten-time WASA champion, Jackie Mitskavich of Dubois, PA, led the starting field into the 6-game round robin match play finals.
Leading by only 18 pins heading into the final position round and awarded 30 bonus pins for each match won, Bollinger defeated 11-time champion Trisha Renshaw of Wilmington, DE 246-217 to take home her fourth title and a check for $600. Renshaw settled for second place and a $350 payday. Mitskavich finished in third as she defeated Sheila Allen of Peekskill, NY 248-222, dropping Allen to fifth, behind fourth place finisher, Michelle Spratford, Hopelawn, NJ who defeated Joy Esterson of Annapolis, MD, 248-213.
Sponsored by John and Laura Jameson of Innovative Bowling Products and held in conjunction with the main event, Margery Cook-Bowers of Baldwin, MD averaged 218 for her six-game total to capture her second career senior title and a check for $225. Just 15 pins behind in second place, Linda Goodling, Willow Street, PA finished with a 1292 total. Other cashers included Lorraine Deibler, Ephrata, PA (1280), Donna Kurtz, Lancaster, PA (1235), Linda Rose-Keefe of North Arlington, NJ (1224), Mary Lorah, Reading, PA (1195) and Darlene Miner, Denver, PA (1192).
Averaging 226 for her six-game total, Tina Lemon of Lancaster, PA won her first WASA classified title and a check for $175. Lois Steindl of Howell, NJ won $125 for her second place effort, with a 1233 total, just head of Sue Lapp, E. Petersburg, PA (1161) and Michele Spinden of Wilmington, DE (1131).
WASA returns to New Jersey on Saturday, May 19th for the Deptford Brunswick Zone Open in Deptford, NJ.
Membership is open to all USBC sanctioned women bowlers who have an established minimum average of 170. Senior events are open to women who are at least 50 years of age and a classified division is open to women who finished with an average of 193 or less in the 2005-06 season.
