Sue Turchen of Wilmington, DE, Olivia Rice of Baltimore, MD and Lori Gold, Howell, NJ, were each the winner of a Women’s All-Star Association (WASA) title where $5000 was offered in three separate tournaments held on July 14th.
Hosted by Charles Juszczak, General Manager, and sponsored by Bob Reid, Vice President of Marketing
for Hammer, WASA returned to their oldest tour stop, AMF Wallington Lanes in Wallington, NJ.
Averaging 226 and winning 5 of six matches in the six game round robin match play finals, Sue Turchen stepped back into the winner’s circle,
capturing her eighth career title and a check for $600. Sue cruised into the final position round with a 145 pin lead over Trish Renshaw,
Wilmington, DE, as second place was up for grabs with only 50 pins separating the next five finalists and 30 pins bonus awarded for each match won.
Patti Tenyenhuis, Saugerties, NY, defeated Christine Mockenhaupt, Pompton Lakes, NJ, 234-213 to take the runner-up position. Mockenhaupt took
third place as Turchen defeated Renshaw, dropping her to fourth. High qualifier into the finals, Tina Gannon, Hanson, MA, defeated Eryn Cully of
Medford, NY to round out fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Held in conjunction with the main event, WASA offers a monthly senior tournament, open to women who have attained the age of 50. Olivia
Rice of Baltimore, MD won her second senior title and a check for $225, averaging 224 for her six-game total of 1349. Just twenty-three pins
behind, Nancy Tartaglia, Rye Brook, NY, settled for a second place finish with her 1326 total. Other finalists include Monica Chieco,
Whitestone, NY (1295), Barbara Skokan, Perth Amboy, NJ (1284), Glenna Crockett, Hackensack, NJ (1259), Linda Goodling,
Willow Street, PA (1245), Linda Rose-Keefe, North Arlington, NJ (1242), Vanessa Oliver, Bear, DE (1232), Gail Kugelman, Annandale, NJ (1195)
and Yvonne Rosanio-Nash, Yonkers, NY (1177).
Averaging 217 for her six-game total, Lori Gold of Howell, NJ, won her first WASA classified title and a check for $225. Barbara Skokan,
Perth Amboy, NJ took second place honors with her 1284 total. Other finalists in order of finish were Lois Steindl, Howell, NJ (1248), Vanessa
Oliver, Bear, DE (1232), Yvonne Rosario-Nash, Yonkers, NY (1177), Suzette Draper, Dumont, NJ (1152), Rebecca Webb, Mamaroneck, NY (1144)
and Michelle Rendelson, Hamilton, NJ (1130). WASA’s classified event is open to women who average less than 194.
WASA returns to Holiday Bowl in Oakland, NJ on Saturday, August 11th for the Ebonite Open..
Membership is open to all USBC sanctioned women bowlers who have an established minimum average of 170. Senior events are open to women
who are at least 50 years of age and women averaging 193 or less are welcome to compete in all classified events. For additional information, log
