SWANSON, ROSE-KEEFE AND SPINDEN

CAPTURE WASA TITLES IN NEW JERSEY

 

 

 

A total purse of $4000 was up for grabs as WASA returned to Brunswick Carolier Zone in North Brunswick, NJ for the Ebonite Open, sponsored

by Mr. Bob Reid, Vice President of Marketing for Ebonite. Carolier Zone and Mr.Warren Fiedler, General Manager, hosted the event for the 19th

consecutive season.

 

Jennifer Swanson, Shelton, CT, won first prize of $500 as she breezed through the 6-game round robin match play finals to win her 23rd career

title, the most of all active members competing each month on the WASA circuit.  She is third behind Carol Zarr (26) and Patti Costello (29), who

are currently inactive.  A slow start and seeded sixth heading into the finals, Jennifer averaged 253, won five of six matches and shot an 828,

(second all-time WASA record), for her final three games.   

                    

                     Tied for second place were April and May champion, Terri Bollinger, West Grove, PA, and Tricia Renshaw of Wilmington, DE.  Glenna Crockett,

Hackensack, NJ finished fourth, high nine-game qualifier, Eryn Cully, Medford, NY and Linda Rose-Keefe of North Arlington, NJ rounded out the top six.             

                    

Linda Rose-Keefe of North Arlington, NJ took home a $225 first place check and her ninth title, as she averaged 227 in WASA’s monthly senior

event.  Linda shot a 1367 for her six game total.  Leanna Little-Smith, Bronx, NY (1292), finished in second place, taking home $150.  Other finishers

include Glenna Crockett,

Hackensack, NJ (1288), Ruthette Gower, Washington, NJ (1230), Andi Whitlock, Middletown, DE (1224), Patti Balcomb, Levittown, PA (1195),

Barbara Shelton, Hempstead, NY (1185) and Donalle Effort of Sleepy Hollow, NY (1154). Held in conjunction with the main event, WASA offers

a monthly senior tournament for women who have attained 50 years of age.

 

Rookie, Michele Spinden of  Newark, DE, took home the classified crown and a check for $200. Bowling in her second WASA event, Michele

averaged 207 for her six game total.  Other finalists include Andi Whitlock, Middletown, DE (1224), Sue Lapp, East Petersburg, PA (1207), Patti

Balcomb, Levittown, PA (1195), Donalle Effort, Sleepy Hollow, NY (1150) and Vanessa Oliver, Bear, DE (1144).  Also held in conjunction with

the main event, WASA’s classified division is open to women whose average does not exceed 193.

 

Marking the 34th return and remaining the oldest WASA tour stop, AMF Wallington Lanes in Wallington, NJ will host the next tournament on

Saturday, July 14th.  Senior and classified competition will also be offered.

 

WASA membership is open to all USBC sanctioned women bowlers who have an established minimum average of 170.  For additional information,
