JENNIFER SWANSON WINS ROTO GRIP OPEN

                      ANDI WHITLOCK AND NANCY TARTAGLIA WASA CHAMPIONS

 

Jennifer Swanson, Shelton, CT, currently holds the most titles amongst active WASA members (24) and is closing in on the all-time record of 29 held by Patty Costello of Scranton, PA.

Returning to Brunswick Lakewood Zone in Lakewood, NJ, and again sponsored by Mr. Hank Boomershine, President of Roto-Grip, General Manager, Bob Start hosted 3 separate events, which paid out a total prize fund of $4,000.

Averaging 227 for nine games of qualifying, Leslie Bohn of Jackson, NJ led the starting field heading into the six game round robin match play finals.With the qualifying pins dropping and 30 bonus pins awarded for each match won, the lead changed hands after each game, as no more than 30 pins separated the top three spots heading into the final position round. Trailing by only nine pins behind Aesha Turner of Frederick, MD, a 226-203 win and 30 bonus pins gave Jen the victory.  Finishing in third place, Bohn defeated Dawn Fay of Manassas, VA 203-184.  Diana Kurrass of Patchogue, NY and Nancy Tartaglia, Rye Brook, NY finished in fifth and sixth .

 

Offered as a tournament within a tournament and held in conjunction with the Roto-Grip Open, Nancy Tartaglia of Rye Brook, NY, used her first six games of qualifying (1292), to win her first WASA senior title.  Averaging 215, Nancy finished just 5 pins ahead of four-time senior champion, Andi Whitlock of Middletown DE (1287). Other cashers in order of finish include Christine Macke, Fairfax Station, VA (1242), Rebecca Webb, Mamaroneck, NY (1190), Linda Rose-Keefe, No. Arlington, NJ (1128), Linda Goodling, Willow Street, PA (1126) and Gail Kelly of Philadelphia, PA (1116). 

 

Andi Whitlock used her 1287 six game qualifying total to capture her fourth classified title. Averaging 214, Andi finished a convincing 77 pins ahead of Suzette Draper of Lakewood, NJ (1210).  Other cashers include Rebecca Webb, Mamaroneck, NY (1190), Diane Ragusa, Staten Island, NY (1189), Lori Gold, Howell, NJ (1155) and Michelle Rendelson of Hamilton, NJ (1133). 

 

WASA visits Penndel Lanes in Penndel, PA on Saturday, October 6th at noon. Membership is open to all USBC sanctioned women bowlers who have an established minimum average of 170.  Senior events are open to women who are at least 50 years of age and the Classifiied division is offered to ladies with an average of 193 and less.  For additional information, log onto WASA’s website, wasabowling.com, or contact Sharon Nasta, Executive Director, at 732-367-0257.
